Meriden Turner Society
Choral Singing

With the enthusiasm of devoted members and friends, the organization maintained its reputation as a great place to socialize and participate in choral singing. With Mr. Roy Madeia as conductor from 1962-2002 of the Mens chorus, the Combined chorus and the Ladies chorus, the Turner Society continued to participate in competitive Choral singing at the annual Staats Saengerfest. Under the leadership of Mrs. Martha Wagner as President, the Ladies chorus achieved a high level of excellence in competitive choral singing. The accomplishments of choral groups are recorded on the plaques and trophies which are proudly displayed at the Turner Hall. Since the retirement of Mr. Roy Madeia in 2002, and Mr. William Kanute following him, the choruses were then conducted by Ms. Nancy Stewart.

After being held for the many years at High Meadow in Granby, CT, the Staats Saengerfest was hosted by the Meriden Turner Society in 2016, 2017 and will be again on June 24th, 2018. The all day affair starts with breakfast in the morning, followed by choral singing of groups from all over Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. At the conclusion of individual group performances, lunch is served with entertainment provided by the Gemini II, and all the groups organize to sing Massenchoir together.
